Potou Lefko is our grandparents’ extra virgin olive oil; it is our tradition and reminiscences of our childhood’s flavors. The olive oil that we grew up along with a handful of kalamon olives, freshly baked bread from our grandmother, fresh tomatoes from our garden, wild oregano from the surrounding mountains and locally produced feta cheese from the sheepfold!
Potou Lefko is a single variety unfiltered extra virgin olive oil of superior quality extracted from the unique Greek koroneiki variety. Its bright green color and blurred appearance reveals the rich density of nutrients and the mild processing conditions that took place, having as a positive outcome the high content of antioxidants, ranking this olive oil between the best in the world. Product of the first cold extraction, Lefko is being produced solely by mechanical process and environment–friendly. During the cultivation process no chemical fertilizers, pesticides and herbicides were applied to the olive trees that produce Lefko extra virgin olive oil. The valuable green olives are being collected by hand until the end of October from non-irrigated olive trees of 2000 years old that lay on small villages in Southern Peloponnese.
The low levels of acidity along with the extremely high percentage in polyphenols constitute Potou Lefko an olive oil extremely beneficial for the protection of the heart and many other health benefits as well. According to laboratory analysis of Lefko extra virgin olive oil the percentage of elaiokanthali it contains is much higher than the average 99mg/kg, so it belongs to the category of olive oils that protect against oxidation of cholesterol, according to the EU Regulation 432/2012.
